The Beginning of Source of LightKingston, Jamaica was the target of a two-week evangelistic thrust. Eight thousand people heard the Gospel in a single night. Over 900 souls accepted Christ during the campaign. The meetings were exciting, but perhaps the related Jamaican outreach endured longer. Our co-founders, Charles Gilmore and Ed Steele, began to distribute 47,000 Gospels of John house-to-house. In each Gospel, they placed a card offering a free Bible study course to those who mailed the card to their home in Georgia. By the time they returned home, their wives had sent all the lessons they had mimeographed. Hundreds of requests were waiting, and they were still coming. As many as 300 requests came in a single day. In answer to prayer, God provided a printing press, but it soon was overwhelmed. Only a complete print shop could meet the needs. So the plans were made, and Source of Light became a printing ministry. In recent years, Source of Light has printed as many as 8.5 million lessons (with an average of over 5 million) in a year. We have heard of over 20,000 souls coming to Christ per year because of the lessons.
