The Country
Uganda, a landlocked country, bordering Sudan in the North, Republic of Congo in the west, Rwanda and Tanzania in the South, and Kenya in the East, lies astride the equator. It has one of the best-irrigated areas of Africa since Lake Victoria and the Victorian Nile flowing through much of the country. However, Uganda includes semi-desert areas in the northeast.

Bwindi National Park encompasses one of the last remaining habitats of the mountain gorilla. Other animals you might see there are elephants and the giant forest hog. In addition the park is known for its richness in African flora and fauna.

Located in the capital city, Kampala, the Uganda Museum houses a collection of traditional musical instruments and visitors are encouraged to try them.

Uganda, slightly smaller than Oregon, is home to over 23 million people. Over 50% of the population is under 15 years of age, and the life expectancy is only 42.9 years.

Under Idi Amin, Christians were severely persecuted, and the Muslim minority was favored. Now, there is religious freedom.
