CHINA Milestones
China, with well over one billion citizens, boasts of many things --- most populous, the third largest land area in the world, and a very long history consisting of dynasty after dynasty. Throughout these dynasties the concept of a "Central Kingdom" emerged since one can find all the things an ideal realm should include in China. It has towering mountains, picturesque lakes and rivers, inspiriing temples and monasteries, legends, and marvelous architecture. On October 1, 1949, The Peoples' Republic of China was formed with Beijing being named it capital city. China is becoming an industrial power after a time of isolation. It is experiencing unusual economic and social growth and evelopment. As the 21st century dawns, China is evolving into a prosperous and powerful country. Despite these changes, political power remains in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party, a party officially claiming to be atheist. Only 1% of the population claims to be Christian. The Ministry The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, one of the highest towers in the world, stand on the side of the Huangpu River. According to one tourism book, "The glittering light on the top aparkles at night, radiating rays of hope to everyone...." However, only God can give a real hope. "Looking for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity..." (Titus 2:13-14). Source of Light makes the Gospel to China available through the open doors that God provides.
