The Country

From volcanic mountains and desert wastelands to lush jungles, Mexico is a land of stark contrasts. These contrasts are not confined just to natural features but also spiritual. When Hernando Cortez conquered this land in the early 16th century, he brought Spanish rule, culture, and language to Mexico. With that, he also brought the Catholic religion. Since then, the Catholic Church has played a major role in the lives of the Mexican people. Out of the approximately 100,000,000 people that inhabit Mexico, roughly 90% are Catholics. The Catholics "adapted" their traditions in order to make their religion more acceptable to the native peoples. This mixture includes witch doctors, idol worship, spiritualism, and other practices and myths that are all still prominent today. As you can see, all of this causes a great challenge for evangelists in Mexico.

The Ministry

Located in Puebla and headed up by Manuel Lopez, Escuelas Fuente de Luz—The Source of Light Mexico Branch—brings the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Mexican people. Through the Source of Light Spanish lessons, the Mexican people are instructed in the Word of God and taught that salvation is not by works, but by faith in Jesus Christ alone. They learn that salvation is by grace, and not by the endless rituals that have become the backbone of their culture. The correspondence ministry reaches students all over Mexico and in some neighboring countries reaching thousands with God’s Word. Cristina Guerrero faithfully grades all the lessons that come to the Mexico Branch.

Thirty Associate Schools, located throughout Mexico, are also instrumental in reaching out to the Mexican people with the Gospel through the Source of Light Correspondence courses.

Through Church Planting the Lopez family reaches out to the Mexican people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Manuel pastors a church named Iglesia Fuente de Luz —Source of Light Church— that is located in Cuautlancingo, Puebla.

Ruth is involved in ministering to the deaf. There is currently no other deaf ministry in Puebla. Sunday services at the Source of Light Church are regularly translated into Mexican Sign Language.

Manuel frequently travels to many villages, preaching, teaching, and encouraging believers and sharing the Source of Light courses. He works closely with UFM, Mexico in his village outreach.

Manuel and Ruth also translate the Source of Light lessons into Spanish and recently completed Love, Dating, and Marriage, a course that is needed urgently throughout all of Latin America.

Through Bible correspondence courses, church planting, home Bible studies, translation, outreach to the deaf, and village work, the Mexico Branch shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the people of Mexico.
