*1997 Alternative Media Department begain in Omaha, Nebraska when Ben and Gladys Watson were accepted as missionaries with Source of Light Ministries International

*1997 Light from The Gospel of John first produced in braille

*1999 Winning the Race of Life produced in braille and audio cassette formats

*1999 A booklet by David S. Lampel, God Is was first produced in braille.

*2003 New Life in Christ Course 1 produced in braille and audio cassette formats

*2004 Began producing the Journey, a Scrapbook of Life in Christ in braille and sending it to blind friends.

*2005 Began developing audio courses and other materials in audio CD and MP3 formats

Purpose:

The Alternative Media Department of SLM International exists to produce SLM Bible courses and other literature in media other than standard ink print so that the widest number of people can become disciples and make disciples.

Jesus said, “ Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples) of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19) Source of Light Ministries Inter-national believes this mandate extends to those who are blind and visually impaired as well as to the sighted. The problem is that much of the discipleship material written today is not available in formats blind people can access. Through our Alternative Media Department we are trying to in part remedy that problem by placing into braille and audio formats selected courses from the above mentioned lines of courses already available in print. Right now only courses from our basic series' are available but these will be enough to get you started in the process of either becoming a disciple or “making disciples.” Below is a listing of materials now available in braille and audio formats. Several more courses are being worked on and will be available soon.

Bible Study Courses

Winning The Race of Life – 6 lessons (braille and audio cassette) This course, originally written for the 1996 Summer Olympics, takes the student through such basic questions as: “Who is man?” “Who is God?” “Who Is Jesus Christ?” and more.

The New Life in Christ Course 1 – 12 lessons (braille and audio cassette) This course, written for teens and young adults deals with subjects as: the nature of God, sin, the person of Christ, faith and repentance and some of the basics of living the Christian life.

Basic Bible Truths – 8 lessons (audio cassette only, soon in braille) This course deals in great depth with the Bible's teaching on the doctrines of repentance, faith, regeneration, justification, adoption, prayer, sanctification and glorification.

A Country Called Heaven -- Large Print. This course helps the student know for certain how he may know he will go to Heaven when he dies. This course can be used with older people and with people who are just learning English.

Through the Bible Prophetically – -- Audio CD (cost to be determined) This 20 lesson course, taught by SLM director Dr. Bill Shade deals with the prophetic Scriptures in a way that will help the student understand end time events clearly.

Tracts

The following tract titles are available only in braille and print.

Facts, Faith and Feelings: This tract clearly tells the reader how to become a Christian by setting forth the facts of the Christian gospel and showing how one is saved by faith in the facts and not by his/her feelings.

How to Get More Our of Your Bible Study: In this tract you will learn what the author calls “the A B C's of Bible study.” By applying these three principles you will truly get more out of your Bible.

Devotional Booklets

God Is by David S. Lampel – braille and audio cassette) Fifty-two meditations on the attributes of God. Through hymns, scripture and quotations from Christian preachers of the past the reader is helped to meditate more deeply on who God is and what He is like. It's a booklet you'll pick up often.

Knowing Jesus by David S. Lampel – braille and audio cassette) In this series of thirteen meditations on the life and ministry of the Lord jesus you'll see truths about our Saviour that will cause Him to become more real to you. Perhaps by reading this booklet you'll come to know Him for the very first time.

Knowing Rahab the Harlot – (braille) One of the ways God teaches us about Himself is through His people. In this booklet you'll gain an even greater appreciation for God's grace as you read about the life of one of God's trophies.

Knowing The Apostle Paul – (braille) Paul referred to himself as “the least of all saints” and yet God used him mightily. In this collection of devotionals you'll see more truths about God.

Knowing Peter – braille) It has been said that Peter had foot in mouth disease. Yet God used him too. You'll find encouragement as you re-discover how God can make a weak man strong in Him.
